What the Courses Demand
The Kunanyi 25K, 46K and 66K climb from forested lower slopes onto the alpine ridges of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, crossing roughly nine different landscape and microclimate types. This is technical terrain, which makes footwork and descending as important as fitness.
The challenge changes with the distance. The 25K rewards controlled climbing and confident footwork. The 46K adds sustained vertical effort, fuelling and durability across fern gullies and rocky, boulder strewn sections. The 66K requires long-day management on dolerite boulder fields, the Organ Pipes Track, the Zig Zag stone pitched track and the Montagu Thumbs ridge traverse.
Across all distances, the goal is not simply to climb well. It is to descend safely and keep moving well as fatigue builds on technical ground.
How Her Trails Prepares You
Each distance has its own progressive program, building vertical and climbing strength, descending confidence and race-specific endurance without asking you to reproduce the full race in training.
Technical footwork, fuelling, hydration, equipment and pacing on climbs and descents are practised within your training, so they are familiar before race day.
The programming goes beyond the sessions themselves, with in-depth guidance on pacing, fuelling, recovery, menstrual cycles, perimenopause and menopause, injury risk and adapting training around real life. Weekly live coaching calls give you a place to bring your own context, ask questions and work through when to maintain the plan, modify a session or step back.
