Two Nights: Alpine Trails, Recovery, Connection
A focused alpine running experience designed to build strength and confidence on the trails. Across two nights in Bright you’ll explore runnable ridgelines, long climbs, and technical descents: supported with coaching, recovery, and community.
Guides: Samantha Gash and Morgan Coull
What This Mission Is
This two-night alpine mission is a summer immersion designed to strengthen your confidence on the trails while giving you space to reconnect with your body, breath and community. Over the weekend, you will explore runnable ridgelines, shaded forest trails, long climbs and the kind of technical descents that strengthen your mountain skillset.
You will be supported with coaching, safety oversight and simple recovery strategies woven into each day. No rushing. No pressure. Just purposeful movement, practical alpine skills and the kind of shared moments that only happen when women come together in the mountains.
Everything is designed so you can arrive, exhale and fully focus on the experience. We take care of the logistics, preparation and planning so your job is to move, learn and enjoy the flow of a summer weekend in the Alpine National Park.
Our Home Base: Alpine Riverside Cottages
Set on the banks of the Ovens River, Alpine Riverside Cottages gives us something rare in summer. It offers calm, space and a direct connection to the landscape we will spend the weekend exploring. The lawns roll straight to the water’s edge, creating a restorative atmosphere before and after each session.
Being just outside Bright means we stay close to the trails without the noise of town. From this base we have fast access to runnable riverside paths, gentle fire roads and the foothills that lead into the early slopes of the Buffalo Stampede course. It is the ideal launch point for a weekend of alpine movement.
Between runs, the river offers an instant cool down for tired legs, and the surrounding gardens give us space for stretching, breathwork or simply grounding ourselves in nature. It is a setting that holds the group gently, supporting reflection, connection and the slow moments that define our Her Trails Missions.
- Absolute river frontage for summer recovery
- Quiet, spacious, nature-led environment
- Quick access to local alpine trails

Itinerary
Arrival in Bright, check-in, and group welcome. Evening shake-out run on Mystic Hill trails (~90 min • +350 m). Flowing forest singletrack and a steady climb set the tone for the weekend. Shared dinner and alpine terrain briefing afterwards.
The keystone day of the Buffalo experience. Approx 2000m of elevation gain over 5–8 hours, depending on group rhythm and route.
Pace isn’t the focus: it’s about being present in the mountains for an extended time, fuelling well, managing climbs and descents, and staying composed through changing alpine conditions.
The challenge: long sustained climbs, rugged descents, and the mental test of moving steadily for hours. The why: in a supported, coached environment, you’ll practise exactly what Buffalo racing demands: resilience, confidence, and the ability to adapt.
With guided groups and flexible route variations, the mission accommodates different experiences and goals. Whether this is your first alpine immersion or a tune-up for race day, you’ll come away stronger, more resilient, and more assured in your grit.
Consolidation run (~90 min • 10–14 km • +400–600 m). Technical trails around Huggins Ridge or Mystic, reinforcing downhill skills and climbing strength on fatigued legs. Closing circle and key takeaways before midday departure.
Routes may adjust with weather and safety. Each day is designed with adaptability in mind: meeting different experiences and personal goals. This mission builds not just fitness, but the mindset and mountain confidence Buffalo demands.
