The Surf Coast Century 50km is less about sustained climbing and more about navigating constantly changing terrain. The course begins on the sands of Anglesea Beach, climbs inland through the Anglesea Heath, flows through Otway forest trails and returns to the coast for a final beach run back to the finish.
Throughout the program you will train specifically for the conditions runners face on this course:
• Early climbs including the ascent to Mt Ingoldsby (“Heartbreak Hill”)
• Clay 4WD tracks that can be loose or slippery
• Flowing Otway singletrack through forest trails
• Undulating bush terrain requiring steady pacing control
• Coastal cliff-top trails exposed to wind
• A late race beach section where sand running efficiency matters
Rather than simply building endurance, this program develops the strength, durability and terrain awareness needed to move efficiently across constantly changing trail conditions.
