The Race
Running the Gold Coast Marathon
The Gold Coast Marathon is one of the Asia-Pacific region's most celebrated road marathons and consistently one of the fastest courses in Australia. Starting and finishing in the heart of Surfers Paradise, the course takes runners along the Gold Coast Broadwater and coastline on a largely flat, out-and-back route that is purpose-built for fast times.
July on the Gold Coast is Queensland winter, which means cooler conditions than most Australian marathons. With temperatures typically ranging from 8 to 19 degrees on race morning, conditions are among the best you will find for marathon performance in Australia. The course is well-supported, well-marshalled and draws a large international field, with many runners targeting personal bests specifically because of the conditions and the route.
A flat course does not mean an easy one. Without hills to break up effort and pace, the mental and physical demand shifts to even pacing across 42.2 kilometres. This program builds specifically for that challenge.
