Your Desert Ultra Awaits
Her Trails x West Macs Monster · Standley Monster 65 km
The Standley Monster 65 km is a bold and beautiful journey across the West MacDonnell Ranges. Beginning at Standley Chasm and finishing at the historic Alice Springs Telegraph Station, the course moves through ancient rocky creek beds, exposed ridgelines and long sections of runnable single track shaped by millennia of Central Desert weather.
Our 20-week program prepares you for this variety. You will develop the strength, stability and terrain awareness required to run confidently across rock, sand, loose stone and undulating desert trail while learning to manage heat, hydration and sustainable pacing. This is a race where patient movement is power.

Your 20-Week Phase Structure
Prime to Build (Weeks 1 to 4): Establish rhythm, posture and footwork on varied surfaces. Build early elevation tolerance and joint durability across compact, sustainable sessions.
Mindset: Move with awareness and let terrain literacy develop calmly.
Build (Weeks 5 to 10): Gradually increase load with longer base runs, structured climbs and strength work. Practise heat management, fuelling and hydration for desert environments.
Mindset: Strong through consistency rather than effort spikes.
Peak (Weeks 11 to 16): Simulate longer efforts on uneven ground, refine pacing for rolling terrain and work on technical confidence across rock, gravel and creek beds.
Mindset: Calm under load as terrain becomes more challenging.
Taper and Integrate (Weeks 17 to 20): Reduce volume while maintaining movement quality. Sharpen trail awareness, reinforce recovery and fine-tune race day strategy.
