Her Trails Coaching
Trail Marathon 42.2km
Program for Women
A 16-week training program built for the elevation, technical terrain and problem-solving that trail marathon distance demands. Structured progression, integrated recovery and coaching support, designed around the way women actually train.
Why Trail Is Different
Trails ask for more than distance
A trail marathon is not a road marathon on dirt. Elevation changes your pacing. Technical terrain changes your movement. Weather, footing and navigation add layers of decision-making that accumulate across 42 kilometres. A road plan will get you to the start line, but it will not prepare you for what the trail actually asks.
This program is built for those realities, and the ones at home. With structured progression, integrated recovery and a steady weekly rhythm, it grows endurance, hill strength and confidence while respecting the whole of your life.
What Trail Marathon Demands
The skills this program builds
Each element of the program addresses a specific demand of trail marathon racing. These are trained progressively across 16 weeks, not crammed in at the end.
Elevation Work
Climbing efficiency and hiking power are trained as distinct skills.
- ●Hill repeats and tempo climbs
- ●Long runnable ascents and technical descents
- ●Sustained vertical gain does not unravel your race plan
Trail Skills
Not add-ons. Integrated into run sessions so you practise them under realistic load.
- ●Pacing by terrain and footing on variable surfaces
- ●Pole use (optional)
- ●Strategies for night, heat and rain conditions
Strength for Runners
Scheduled weekly with the same priority as your runs. Addresses asymmetric loading before it becomes injury.
- ●Posterior chain and single-leg stability
- ●Ankle, knee and hip resilience
Off-Road Fuelling
Eating while climbing is different from eating on flat road.
- ●Gut conditioning for variable terrain
- ●Hydration strategies for off-road conditions
- ●Fuelling practice during long runs so race-day nutrition is a trained skill
Race Simulation
The program does not just build fitness. It peaks it at the right time.
- ●Deload weeks and race-simulation long runs
- ●Taper built into the 16-week structure
- ●Clear plan for race week and race morning
The Whole Runner
Trail marathon asks everything of you, not just your legs.
- ●Mobility and yoga to restore range
- ●Cycle-aware adaptation built in
- ●Nervous system management alongside physical load
