The Program

Building your foundation for trail half marathon

This is one of our distance-based foundational programs, designed to prepare you for a trail half marathon with structure and support. You will develop endurance, technical skill, and strength, alongside mobility, recovery, and mindset tools. If you have a specific race in mind, our intro content includes guidance on how to adapt your elevation and terrain training to match your goal.

The program roll out: you will receive immediate access to all introductory materials. You will also be welcomed into our Coaching Corner and Her Trails Community Hub for ongoing support. From there, each training week is released on the Saturday prior to the new week to support rhythm and progression.

Your Training Week

What each week looks like

Each week is structured to build your running base progressively while developing the supporting elements that keep you strong, resilient and moving well on trail.

Β

Run Sessions

Base Miles, Intervals, Thresholds, Hills

Structured Β |Β  Progressive

Your run sessions build progressively across the 12 weeks. You will move through base miles to develop aerobic endurance, interval sessions to build speed and efficiency, threshold work to extend your comfortable effort range, hill repeats for climbing strength, and longer runs to build the time-on-feet confidence a trail half marathon demands.

Foundation focus: consistency before intensity, building a base you can sustain

Β

Strength

Control, Confidence, Resilience

Progressive Β |Β  Runner-specific

Progressive strength training designed specifically for trail runners. These sessions build the control, confidence and injury resilience you need to handle elevation changes, technical terrain and sustained effort. Strength is not an add-on. It is a core part of how we prepare you to run strong.

Foundation focus: building patterns that protect you as training load increases

Β

Recovery

Mobility, Yoga, Recovery Tools

Sustainable Β |Β  Restorative

Mobility, yoga and recovery sessions support sustainable movement across the full program. These are not optional extras. They are built into your weekly rhythm to help your body absorb training load, maintain range of motion and stay resilient through 12 weeks of progressive work.

Foundation focus: learning to recover well so you can train consistently

Β

Long Run

Building Time on Feet

Weekly Β |Β  Progressive distance

Your weekly long run builds gradually to develop the endurance and confidence you need for half marathon distance on trail. These sessions are run at conversational effort, with guidance on terrain selection, pacing by feel, and fuelling practice. The long run is where everything comes together: fitness, mindset, and the quiet confidence that you belong out there.

Foundation focus: building distance at a pace your body can sustain and absorb

Not Sure?

Is this the right level for you?

You do not need to be a beginner for this to be the right place to start. This program is perfect if you are rebuilding consistency, craving structure, or looking to run strong without burnout.

If you already have a steady training rhythm, feel confident running 60+ minutes with elevation, and want to layer in more intensity: our Intermediate Half Trail Marathon program may be a better fit.

Why Her Trails

Built for women, grounded in real coaching

Every element of this program is shaped by how women train, recover and build confidence on trail. This is not a generic plan adapted for women. It is coaching designed from the ground up around your physiology, your psychology, and your lived experience.

Female-First Design

Built around your physiology, psychology, and lived experience. Cycle-aware adaptation is built in, and the program respects the reality that energy, motivation and capacity shift across the month. Approximately 80% of sessions sit at conversational effort.

Life-Aware Coaching

Structured for growth, flexible for real life. Your week is released each Saturday so you meet each week where you are. Flex days are built in for energy and load management, because consistency matters more than perfection.

Whole-Person Training

We coach beyond fitness: into mindset, recovery, and nervous system support. Nutrition, female physiology insights, and mental resilience tools are layered throughout the program, not bolted on as extras.

Fully Mobile

Train anywhere, on your schedule. All sessions, coaching content and community are accessible via the Kajabi platform and app. Your program goes where you go.

Foundations, Not Limitations

This program is about building something lasting. Whether you are returning to running or discovering trails for the first time, the foundation you build here is the platform for everything that comes next. We coach you as a whole runner, not just through a plan.
