The Race

Running UTA50

Ultra-Trail Australia is one of the country's most iconic trail races, run on the escarpments and valleys of the Blue Mountains around Katoomba. The 50km covers technical singletrack, fire trail and long staircases, with around 2,400m of climbing across the day. It descends into the Jamison Valley, traces the cliff lines and forest of the escarpment, takes on the Kedumba descent and climb, and finishes with the relentless Furber Steps back up to Scenic World.

Held in mid-May, race day falls in the cool Blue Mountains autumn, with crisp mornings, mild days and the chance of fog or mist hanging in the valleys. With a 14.5-hour cut-off, the course rewards patience, steady climbing and composure as much as raw speed.

The climbs, the technical terrain and the long day all reward specific preparation. This program builds exactly that.
